Labor Day/Marine Party Flower Pot

Hi.  I'm so glad you stopped by!

I have this fascination with turning clay pots in to something fun.  They are inexpensive and very easy to work with.  You could make pots for every season and every holiday, or, even a party.

In fact, I have a son-in-law who is a Marine (Hi Trey) and is leaving for Afghanistan next week, (insert tears) and my daughter, my very pregnant daughter, is having a going away party for him, this Sunday.  Won't this make the perfect centerpiece for the food table, or maybe a bowl for chips. The list is endless.......

I started with these clay pots I bought at Walmart. How boring are these "before" pots.....yawn!

First, I primed the pot and tray with Krylon White Primer, inside and out.

Next, I taped off the pot where I wanted the stripes to be. I used Krylon Indoor/Outdoor paint with a gloss finish. I chose the color (burgundy) because it looked the most like the red in an American flag.

Once I had the stripes painted, I covered the bottom of the pot with plastic and taped it off.

For the blue border I used Krylon Indoor/Outdoor Navy Blue with a gloss finish.

Lastly, I used a star stencil that I had and traced the stars on to the pot.  For this part I used a Krylon White Paint Pen with a medium point. (I'm starting to think I have an addiction to Krylon)

There you have it, my Labor Day/Marine Going Away Party Pot.

Thanks for stopping by.  I am honored!

Grandma's Rhubarb Bars

Hi, I'm so glad you stopped by.

Today I am going to blog about my sweet grandmother's Rhubarb Bar recipe.

She passed away many years ago and I still miss her so much.  But, at this time of year I pull out a few of my special items that she passed on to me, and make her bars.  It makes me feel like she's here with me, if only for a little while.

This is extra special to me because I have two of her rhubarb plants, her pretty glass pan that she used for making rhubarb bars and her amazing recipe.

Here is her recipe.

Crust:
1 cup flour
1/2 cup of butter (softened)
5 tsp powdered sugar
Mix ingredients in the bottom of 8 x 8 pan.  Press in to pan.  Bake at 350 for 12 minutes.

Filling:
1/4 cup flour
1/4 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp salt
1 tsp vanilla
2 beaten eggs
1 1/2 cups sugar
2 cups rhubarb
Mix well and pour over crust.  Bake at 350 for 35 minutes.

It is super yummy if you serve it while it is still hot with vanilla ice cream on it, but is just as fabulous if you eat it plain.

Check out this cool pan!  LOVE it!

Here is how it looks before baking the crust

Ta da!  Can you almost smell that goodness?

This recipe is so easy and you probably have all the ingredients in your kitchen, except the rhubarb.

Thank you so much for stopping by.  I am truly honored.

Milk Bottle

Do you have something that you have been holding on to for years? You don't know what to do with it, so it just sits in a cupboard or box?  Well, I do.

One of the things I have is a milk bottle that belonged to a family member from years ago.  They lived in Minneapolis and the milk man would deliver milk in glass bottles.  Oh the simpler days........

I decided it was time to do something with it, it was time for this little gem to get a new life.

We went up to our cabin this weekend, so I figured this would be an easy thing to take along and get done in a day.

Here is the before. All cleaned up and ready for a new look

First, I put a piece of masking tape on the bottle so I would have a straight line.  Sorry I didn't take a picture of that part, but I put it where I wanted the bottom of the letters to go.

Next, I applied the letters.  I purchased them at Michaels, in the Kids Craft section. They are foam with sticky backs. Perfect for this kind of project.

I applied a coat of spray paint sealer.

Then, I applied 2 coats of white gloss spray paint.

I let it dry for a few hours and then removed the letters.  I brought it home and put it on the shelf above my kitchen sink.  I just LOVE it!  And, it was so easy.

Well, there you have it.  I hope this inspires you to take that thing you have been holding on to, and didn't know what to do with, and make it something you want to show off.

Thank you so much for stopping by.

Framed Magnet

Whenever I see a pretty card, or a magnet in this case, I always think "What could I do with THAT". It's a sickness really.  Whenever I see anything, and I mean anything, my mind starts to reel and I think of so many things I could do with it.  This was no exception.

So, I came up with an idea.

Last fall while I was at a Craft Boutique I found these great magnets.  They were about daughters.  I wanted to give them to my daughters, but I didn't want to just hand them a magnet. So, I came up with an idea of how to turn them in to a keepsake.

Here's what I did.

I went to Kohls and found these great 5 X 7 frames, for 50% off. I wanted something modern, since my girls are in their 20's.

I chose the paper that I wanted to use for the background. The edges of the designs have silver glitter on them, which looks beautiful with the silver in the frame.  I'm sorry it doesn't really show up in this picture, so you will have to use your imagination.

I picked up the paper at Archivers in one of those card stock books where you get 72 sheets (LOVE those), again for 50% with an Archivers coupon.  Little side note: Did you know that you can sign up to be on their mailing list and they will mail you coupons, great coupons, and a booklet of ideas?  Yup!

Next I glued the magnet to the cardstock.  Isn't that magnet adorable!  It says "Having a Daughter is like growing your own best friend".  Isn't that just the sweetest.  The magnet cost $2.50 and it was already matted. It just doesn't get any better than that.

Then I put it all together.  It's as easy as putting a picture in a picture frame.   Easy peasy!

Don't you just love that idea?

Do you have a card from someone special that you have just lying in a box somewhere?  Now you can frame it and have it out so you can enjoy it.

Thanks for stopping by.  It means the world to me.

Turkey and Veggie Egg Bake

Hi!  We're so glad you stopped by!  I apologize for the lack of recipe updates.  To be honest, I didn't think anyone would want ...
